The DirectDraw portion of the drivers supports Direct3D when using DirectX 7. NOTE: DirectX 7 redistributable files should be used with these drivers! ======================================================================= Installation ======================================================================= Requirements ------------ - Windows 95/98/Me - PC with an Intel Pentium series or AMD K6/7 series processor - A free AGP or PCI slot - 16MB of RAM or more Suggested Fresh Installation ------------------ NOTE: Complete Steps 1 and 2 before removing your existing 2D card. 1) Extract the files for the Voodoo driver to a directory. 2) Before removing your existing 2D card switch the video driver to Standard VGA. Click Start, Control Panel. Double-click on Display. Select 640X480 and 16 colors. Accept the changes. 3) Power off the system and remove your existing 2D card. 4) Install the Voodoo card in a free AGP or PCI Slot 5) Power on the system and verify that video appears during post. 6) Start Windows in Normal mode (Once Windows starts you may be notified that no video device exists, click Cancel if this message appears) 7) Go to the directory where you put the Voodoo driver, run the executable file Setup.exe. Click SETUP. At the welcome screen of 3dfx Tools, select NEXT. Click on YES when prompt to install Voodoo driver. 8) Follow instruction on the screen to install Voodoo driver and 3dfx Tools Control Panel. 9) Select 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now' when prompted. 10) Install DirectX 7.x. Upgrade Existing Voodoo drivers -------------------------------------- 1) Start Windows 95/98/Me 2) Extract the files for the Voodoo driver to a directory. 3) Go to the directory where you put the Voodoo driver, run the executable file Setup.exe. Click SETUP. At the welcome screen of 3dfx Tools, select NEXT. Click on YES when prompt to install Voodoo driver. 4) Follow instruction on the screen to install Voodoo driver and 3dfx Tools Control Panel. 5) Select 'Yes, I want to restart my computer now' when prompted. 6) Install DirectX 7.x. Limitations ----------- Running 640x480 16 Color will run SUPERVGA.DRV or VGA.DRV. No Voodoo features will be used. Switch to a different resolution or color depth. Full windowed hardware acceleration with this version of the drivers is only possible when running at 16bpp modes. ======================================================================= Troubleshooting Techniques ======================================================================= Problem: -------- After installing the card, the system still detects my old card even though it is no longer in the system. Explanation: ------------ See Step 2 of the "Fresh Installation" instructions. Problem: -------- User can only access a resolution of 640x480 although any colour depth is available Explanation: ------------ This happens when the monitor is set to unknown or default Solution: --------- Change monitor selection on display properties page by following the following instructions: * Right click on desktop and select properties from the drop down menu * Click on the settings tab and select advanced * Choose monitor tab * Select change * Follow the instructions and change to either PnP (Plug and Play) or the exact model of the monitor ************************************** DISCLAIMER: These drivers are provided "as is" with no warranty whatsoever!
